Mined // Girl
Was proud enough to be a Tooting resident before this – we’ve got the Mayor of London, the flagship Chicken Cottage, and the best small market in the UK – but that’s all small change in comparison to discovering that the area is also home to Mined, heir apparent to the throne of soul-baring electronic pop.
Early tracks Mistakes and Pangs set the tone; minimal electronic soundscapes that wrap up Kofi Holmes Attivor’s understated vocals. But it’s last month’s single Girl that really does the emotional damage, paring production back yet further so that Attivor’s voice becomes the track’s gravitational pull. It sounds like pure, honest melancholy, only backed with beats which sound like a Gold Panda track broken by the weight of his lyricism. A real gut punch from SW London.
